John Tivis Cox age 40 and Nancy Ann Pierce age 40 were my second great grandparents. They were married on 23 Sep 1860 in Greene County. John Tivis Cox was born 7 Mar 1839 in Greene County and died on 5 Jul 1915 in Jefferson County. He was the son of Riley Cox and Frances Price. Nancy Ann Pierce was born on 15 Jan 1839 in Greene County and died on 22 Jul 1880 in Greene County. So she died shortly after the census was taken. She was the daughter of James E. Pierce and Anny Green. George Jackson Cox age 18 was my great grandfather. He married my great grandmother Clarissa Loretta (Retta or Rett) Nichols on 9 Dec 1883 in Greene County. |

Francis M. (Franky) Cox was the daughter of Horton Cox and Nancy C. Jones. As such, she was the niece of my third great grandfather Riley Cox. She was the second wife of Felix C. James. Felix had married first Franky's older sister Amanda C. (Mandy) Cox. He married Franky after Mandy died. This census entry reports correctly that Franky's father Horton Cox was born in North Carolina. However, there is an error for Lulu. This census entry should report that Lula's father Felix James was born in South Carolina rather than North Carolina. |

Riley Cox and his first wife Frances (Franky) Price were my third great grandparents. Riley's second wife was Marinda Pierce. Marinda's sister Nancy Ann Pierce married John Tivis Cox, and they were my second great grandparents. So two sisters married a father and son. Marinda and Nancy were the daughters of my third great grandparents James E. Pierce and Anny Green. Riley was the son of my fourth great grandparents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett. It is a well known part of oral family history that Riley was blind. He went blind when he was in his 40's, and he raised his entire second family while he was blind. |

I believe that Mary Wheeler was Mary (Polly) Cox, daughter of my fourth great grandparents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett. Mary (Polly) Cox married Smith Wheeler, and was a widow by the time of the 1850 census. Sarah Wheeler Beals is believed to have appeared in the 1850 census as Lotty Wheeler, daughter of Mary (Polly) Cox Wheeler. |

According to the IGI, Joseph R. Waits married "Frankis M. Cox" in 1881. Further research and confirmation is required, but I believe that "Frankis M. Cox" was Frankie A. Cox, daughter of my second great grandparents John Tivis Cox and Nancy Ann Pierce. |

Claudius C. Cox was the son of Aaron Cox and Experience (Spriddy) Wells. He was enumerated in 1850 and 1860 as Claudius Mitchell. Experience (Spriddy) Wells' first husband was Thomas Mitchell, and her first two children were with Thomas Mitchell. I believe that Aaron Cox was the brother of my fourth great grandfather Reuben Cox. As such, Claudius was probably Reuben's nephew. Claudius's wife was Martha Margert Carter, daughter of Jacob Carter and Pollie Guffie. |
