John B. Proffitt's wife was Rachel Lucy (Lucy) Bryan. I do not know who Lucy's parents were, nor whether she was connected to my own Bryan family. Generally speaking, Bryans in Hawkins County were from North Carolina and were not from my line. But Lucy was from Virginia, as were my Bryans from Sevier County, Tennessee. Penelope age 19 appears to have been Lucy's daughter who had recently married William Alexander, but this is not confirmed. |

Richard Cole age 60 and Margaret age 64 were the parents of Martin Cole from dwelling number 8 and of James Cole from dwelling number 9. I'm continue to seek additional evidence, but I believe that Richard and Margaret were my fourth great grandparents. |

I'm continue to seek additional evidence, but I believe that Martin Cole age 34 and Elizabeth Merritt age 25 were my third great grandparents, and that William Cole age 4 was my second great grandfather who married my second great grandmother Vesta Clay England. Martin was the son of Richard Cole and Elizabeth from dwelling number 7 above. |

I am looking in the 1850 census for my second great grandfather William Cole who married my second great grandmother Vesta Clay England. William Cole age 10 in this family was the wrong age in 1850 to have been my William Cole. James Cole age 38 was the brother of Martin Cole from dwelling number 8 above, and the son of Richard Cole from dwelling number 7 above. The William Cole in dwelling number 8 was the right age to have been my William Cole. This family is going to be tricky to research because there were a lot of first cousins (children of James and Martin, respectively) who had the same given names. Both James and Martin had sons named William, named Richard, and named Andrew. Both James and Martin had daughters named Margaret. So, for example, if I find a Hawkins County marriage for William Cole, I will need to know which William. If it was William son of James, then it proves nothing because William son of James was not the right age to be my William Cole anyway. But if it was William son of Martin, then it provides strong evidence that William son of Martin did not marry my second great grandmother Vesta Clay England and therefore was not my William Cole. |

Fidillo D. (Dillo) Sanders age 9 later married Sarah Eveline (Eveline) Bryan. Eveline was the daughter of William Enyard Bryan and Amanda Keener. William was the son of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate. As such, William was the brother of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan. Perlina Evelyn Sanders age 5/12 had a more indirect connection to the family. Perlina married John Henry (Henry) Randolph. After Perlina died, Henry Randolph married Margaret M. (Maggy) Bryan. Maggy was the daughter of the aforementioned Peter H. Bryan and Peter's wife Mary Ann (Polly Ann) Cate. Dillo and Perlina, along with all their brothers and sisters, were the chiildren of Merry Arthur (Arthur) Sanders and Louiza Loudeback. |

John Looney was the son of Michael Looney and Temperance Cross. Temperance Cross was the sister of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy. John's wife was Elizabeth Johnson. |
