 70-79 1761-1770 0
 80-89 1751-1760 1 Elijah Cross

David Looney Cross age 40-49 was the son of Elijah Cross age 80-89 and Nancy Ann Lane.  As such, David was the nephew of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  I believe that Nancy Ann Lane and Ann Looney were the same person, and that she married first Samuel Looney.

David L. Cross and David Looney Cross were first cousins, about the same age, and living very near each other.  So it's hard to tell which is which without the children's names.

We can tell which David this was because of the male born 1751-1760.  The second page of the 1840 census listed pensioners by name, even if they were not head of household.  In this particular case, the pensioner was Elijah Cross, father of David Looney Cross.

 40-49 1791-1800 1 1 Abram Cross, Peachy Gitt

I believe this was Abraham Cross and Peachy Gitt.  However, the ages of the children do not match up as well as I would like with known ages of the children.

Abraham Cross was the son of Elijah Cross Sr. and Nancy Ann Lane.  As such, Abraham was the nephew of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  I believe that Nancy Ann Lane and Ann Looney were the same person, and that she married first Samuel Looney.  Peachy Gitt was the daughter of Jacob Gitt.

 20-29 1811-1820 0 0
 30-39 1801-1810 1 1 John Cross, Rachel Sampson

John Cross was probably the son of Abraham Cross and Elizabeth Ensor.  I have John's birth date as about 1794.  If this is the right John Cross, then either I have the birth date slightly wrong, or else the 1840 census had the birth date slightly wrong.  There was a John Cross age 62 in the 1850 Sullivan County census who is may be the same John Cross (but his age is even further off!).  The John Cross from the 1850 census had David Cross age 9 living with him (son or grandson?), and nobody else.

 15-19 1821-1825 2 0 John Cross, Elijah J. Cross
 20-29 1811-1820 0 1 Susan Cross
 30-39 1801-1810 0 1 Mary (Polly) Himes
 40-49 1791-1800 1 David Cross

David L. Cross was the son of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the drummer boy and Mary.  David L. Cross and David Looney Cross were first cousins, about the same age, and living very near each other.  See David Looney Cross above for an analysis of why I think this is David L. Cross and the "other" David was David Looney Cross.

 40-49 1791-1800 0 1
 50-59 1781-1790 1 John Cross

I do not know who this John Cross was.  It is possible that he was the son of Abraham Cross and Elizabeth Ensor.  However, I have already targeted the John Cross from page 111a as the son of Abraham.  I could well have it backwards, and it could be this John who was the son of Abraham, instead.  Either way, I have a John Cross unaccounted for.

Note that this John Cross is a better fit for the John Cross age 62 in the 1850 census than is the John Cross from page 111a.

 80-89 1751-1760 0
 90-99 1741-1750 1 Abraham Cross

This was Abraham Cross, son of William Cross and Alice Cole.  His wife, Elizabeth Ensor, apparently died between 1830 and 1840.  Abraham was the brother of my fourth great grandfather William Cross.

I have very sketchy information on Abraham's children, and what I have does not match up very well with this census entry.  Some of these people were probably grandchildren rather than children.

Elijah Cross Jr. was the son of Elijah Cross and Nancy Ann Lane.  I believe that Nancy Ann Lane and Ann Looney were the same person, and that she married first Samuel Looney.

Elijah Cross Jr. married first Catherine Cook.  Catherine Cook died 1837/1839.
