Death: 6 September 1908, age 77, Brandsville, Howell County, Missouri. Burial: after 6 September 1908, Union Hill Cemetery, Brandsville, Howell County, Missouri. He served in the Civil War, but there are conflicting opinions as to whether his service was Union or Confederate. The following is from James E. Wall:

John Daniel WALL served in the Civil War, we think as a confederate but recently Norman WALL who descends from John & Emily Bray son Samuel Wesley WALL thinks he fought for the Union. He has papers for a J.D.WALL who mustered out of the Army after taking a presidential oath. I think this oath was a loyalty oath Confederates took before being released back into the general population. The problem I have with this is John Daniel WALL & Emily BRAY have no Ohio connections and this J.D. WALL mustered out of the army in Ohio, which means he mustered in there as well.. Our John Daniel WALL served in the Quartermaster Corps and was stationed at Knoxville, Knox Co. Tenn where he ran the commissary.

John Daniel WALLs older brother James Mastin WALL had sons who were Confederates but they remained in North Carolina. John migrated to Tenn. with an older brother Issac Berryman WALL, who went by Berryman. Berryman remained in Tenn/KY when John Daniel and family moved on to Brandsville Missouri.
