Census: 1880, Wise County, Texas. Jones James 24 son-in-law male married white, teacher, born TN, father and mother born TN, enumerated household of his wife's parents John J. Gaut and Margaret Angeline (Angeline) Bryan. However, neither his wife nor his first two children were enumerated with the family. James was enumerated twice in 1880. The first time was in Tennessee, and he was enumerated with his wife and children. The second time was in Texas, and his wife and children were not enumerated with him. The family did not break up, and he and his wife had additional children after 1880. The most likely explanation is simply that his wife and children had not yet arrived in Texas at the time he was enumerated in Texas.
