This is the line of Jay Slagle, Stuarts Draft, VA. Jayslagle@aol.com James was a widely known Methodist minister, served in the Georgia Legislature, sold real estate in Walker County, GA. During the war the McFarland home was used as a hospital. McFarland United Methodist Church & McFarland Avenue in Rossville were named for him. From Elizabeth Cate Manly: Alice Bryan McFarland, beloved "Aunt Allie", was generous to a fault, and a part of all that was good in her community. "Uncle Bill", Dr. W.H. Bryan, said with her skill in "waiting on the sick" she cured many of his patients before he had a chance to prescribe! I remember fondly visiting the McFarlands in Rossville. Theirs was true Southern hospitality.

Alice Ann (Allie) Bryan and James Robert McFarland Marriage: 14 February 1878, Bradley County, Tennessee. From Elizabeth Cate Manly: All the children of James R. and Alice McFarland died "before their time". We miss them all. Mary Alice Dantzler is interested in family lore, and we look forward to a full chronicle of this branch of Bryan-Horton kin.

James Robert McFarland3,52,358, son of Xanders Gordon McFarland and Lucy Ann Boyle,. Birth: 23 April 1856, Walker County, Georgia. Death: 2 January 1931, age 74, Rossville, Walker County, Georgia. From Elizabeth Cate Manly: James R. McFarland, "Uncle Jim", came to Chatata Seminary, Bradley County, as a young man. He was a widely known Methodist minister, served in the Georgia Legislature, sole real estate in Walker County, and befriended all he met. During the War Between the States, the large McFarland home was used as a hospital, and Uncle Jim never forgot the harrowing experiences he had as a small boy. McFarland United Methodist Church and McFarland Avenue in Rossville are appropriately named. From Nancy Hashberger Urban: My father talks about as a child running beside the railroad tracks with the rest of the grandchildren, waving to his grandfather as he went to the Senate, and his grandfather waving back and laughing. Lost all his money in the Depression. My father says that he was a wonderful man.
