Obituary:
CRYDER., DOROTHY M. (nee SCHRADER) Of Plainfield. Age 77 years. Died Mon., May 8, 2000 at her home. She was born March 6, 1923 in Jefferson County, TN.
She is survived by her husband, John. H. Cryder of Plainfield; children, John M. (Sandra) Cryder of Mt. Sydney, VA, Linda S. (John) Prosser of Chehalis, WA, Diane C. (Fred) Spandet of Lake Villa, IL, Sam H. (Nancy) Cryder of Plainfield, IL; grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Prosser, Dana and Brady Spandet, and Catie and Pieter Cryder; brother, Clyde (Jean) Schrader of Gulf Port, FL; sister, Betty (Russell) Ream of Millpitas, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents Harry and Neva (nee Cox) Schrader and her brother Earl Schrader.
She was a resident of Plainfield since 1956 and a member of Plainfield Congregational Church. Dorothy retired in 1985 as "living section" editor for the Joliet Herald Newspaper achieving several awards, including the coveted Copley Bell for her story "Midnight on the Children's Ward" about Christmas Eve in a hospital. She was a Charter Member of Zanta Club, Joliet, and she was past president of the Plainfield Garden Club. Her accomplishments also include being a committee member of Celebrity Spotlight with Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet. Dorothy loved flower arranging and gardening, vacationing at their home in Tortola, BVI, and at especially spending time with her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Plainfield Congregation Church, or to Alzheimer's Assn., Four Rivers Chapter, P.O. Box 377, Kankakee, IL 60901 would be appreciated.
Visitation was Friday, May 12 at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home, Plainfield and Saturday, May 13 at the church. Funeral service was Saturday, May 13 at Plainfield Congregation Church, Plainfield. Interment Aux Sable Cemetery, Aux Sable Twp., IL. Arrangements by Overman-Jones Funeral Home, Plainfield.
