Third Generation

18. William J Peters17,57,58 was born about 1821 in Tennessee.

He was missing from the census in 1850.

He appeared in the census in 1860 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Anderson County, Tennessee, 6 Jun 1860, Clinton PO; p.1a, dwelling number 4, family number 4; Peters William J. 39 m w farmer /$100 TN cannot R/W; Susan 34 f w TN cannot R/W; Joseph R. M. 9 m w TN attended school; Jemima J. 7 f w TN attended school; James H. 4 m w TN; Emila A. 1 f w TN.

William died about 1864.59

I believe that William J. Peters was the son of Thomas Peters and Sarah B. (Jenny) England, but it is not proven. My evidence is two-fold. 1) A process of elimination. Thomas appears from the 1830 census data to have had sons, all the other Peters lines in Anderson County appear to have been accounted for, nobody lists any sons for Thomas, so my first guess is to attach otherwise unattached Peters males of the correct age to Thomas (pretty weak, I know). 2) William/Wilburn Peters and John W. Peters sold land to George W. Keith 31 Dec 1841, and the land was adjacent to land owned by Thomas Peters. This suggests that John W. Peters and William/Wilburn Peters might have been sons of Thomas. Again this is very weak, but it is all I have at this point.

Joseph R M Peters was born about 1851 in Tennessee. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Joseph R. M. 9 m w TN attended school. He died between 1861 and 1869. It is assumed he died before 1870 because he did not appear with the family in the 1870 census. However, his sister Emilia A. (Millie) Peters was not with the family in 1870, either, and she didn't die before 1870. (RGB)
