Birth: 30 July 1817, Anderson County, Tennessee.28,55,56 The birth date on her tombstone is 30 Jul 1821. The England book lists her birth date as 30 Jul 1812. It seems likely that the England book has the last two digits of the year reversed because the author probably obtained the birth date from the tombstone. Census data suggest a birth year of 1817 or 1818, and my best guess is 1817. (RGB)

Jane 62 wife female married white, keeping house NC NC NC. Jane's birth place of North Carolina in the 1880 census is probably not correct. All other evidence points to a birth place of Anderson County, Tennessee.
Death: 9 April 1881, age 63, [Fentress County], Tennessee.55,56 It is a guess that she died in Fentress County because she was buried in Fentress County. She was enumerated in the 1870 census in Fentress County and in the 1880 census in Morgan County. So another possibility is that she died in Morgan County. According to the Civil War pension application of her husband's second wife Anna Melissa Davis, Jenny died on 21 March 1881. The death date of 9 April 1881 from her tombstone is likely to be the more accurate date.

GPS: 36.189199, -85.054529. Jane was referred to as Jennie on the death certificate of her son Luke England and also on her tombstone. All early census records list her name as Jane.

The marriage is known to have taken place in the Scarbrough community because of a deposition by Charles M. Smith in John England's Civil War pension application. Charles M. Smith identified himself as living in Scarbrough. The deposition goes on to say: "At the time he (John England) married he came to the squire close to where I live to be married.
