Birth of Child: 7 July 1899, George Marvin (Marvin) Nichols, age of father: 39. Birth of Child: about 1902, Leon M. Nichols, age of father: 42. Death: about 1907, age 47.44 I remember my dad (Robert Howard Nichols) telling me that his grandfather GW Nichols lived on Stewart Street in Knoxville. My dad said that when the circus would come to Knoxville, he and his grandfather (GWN) would walk down the day before the circus opened. My dad as a young boy (around 6-10 yrs old) was fascinated with the elephants, for the elephants would help in setting up the site by raising tent poles and pulling equipment around. He said he was really fascinated when the elephants would pull the tigers around in their rolling cages. GWN apparently had the skill to eat peas by scooping them up with a regular eating knife. Other than some old pictures of him, that’s about all I know about him. He died around 16 years before I was born. (George R. Nichols)

All members of my family use to speak highly of GWN. They spoke of him as being a very good, kind, and somewhat quiet man. (George R. Nichols)
