9. William J Slaton was born in 1829 in Virginia.

He appeared in the census in 1840 in Stokes County, North Carolina. Age 10-14, enumerated in the household of his father William Slaydon.

He appeared in the census in 1850 in Surry County, North Carolina. William J. 20 m w VA William appeared in the census in 1870 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. p.478, Dist.8, 22 Jul 1870, dwelling number 124, family number 127, Slayton William 40 m w farm laborer VA, Emeline 31 f w keeps house TN, Samuel H. 8 m w TN, Susan L. 4 f w TN He died between 1880 and 1889 at the age of 51. He was enumerated in the 1880 census. He was described as "William Slaton deceased" in 1889 in a Jefferson County deed wherein his widow and children sold two tracts of land. I believe it's most likely that he died in 1888 or 1889. Know all men by these presents that we Emaline Slaton widow of William,


Samuel Slaton and wife Viola Slaton and Susan Slaton heirs of said
deceased William Slaton have this day bargained, sold and do by these presents
convey unto Jos. W. Parrott two tracts or parcels of land lying and being in the 9th
Civil district of Jefferson County and State of Tennessee, the first adjoining
the lands of Saml. Jones, J.J. Green and others and Bounded as follows.


Beginning on a rock formerly a White Oak corner to Jones and Parrott thence
corner to W end of W 82 Green thence S 9 E 22 ½ to a rock and pointer,
thence N 57 E 78 poles to the Beginning. Estimated to contain Twelve Acres
more or less. Second tract adjoining the lands of J.J. Green, Goodrich, and others
and Bounded as follows. Beginning on a Rock set on the ground in the
middle of Dandridge and Mossy Church road thence S 60 W 7 ½ poles to a
rock in Panders line thence with same S 13 ½ E 7 ½ poles to a rock Goodrich's
corner thence with Goodrich line N 72 E 8 poles to a Black Oak his corner
thence N 6 poles to a service road and thence with same N 55 W 5 ½ poles to Beginning.
In consideration of Fifty dollars $50.00 to us in hand paid Receipt of which
is hereby acknowledged To have and to old unto said J.W. Parrott and his
heirs forever and bind ourselves, our heirs and assigns to warrant and defend
title of same to the said J.W. Parrott forever. We further covenant that we are
lawfully seized of and possessed of said land and have a lawful right
to transfer the same. Given under our hands and Seals this September

Priscilla Emeline (Emeline) Sellers23 was born about 1839 in Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Emeline wife f m w 46 TN NC TN keeping house She died between 30 April 1895 and 1900 at the age of 56 in [Jefferson County], [Tennessee]. Emaline signed a deed on 30 Apr 1895, and did not appear on the 1900 census. The 1895 deed was in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and her children were enumerated in the 1900 census in Jefferson County, so she probably died in Jefferson County. Emaline Slaton et. Al. To Jennie Oakley Registered Nov. 16, 1897.

Know all men by these presents that we Emaline Slaton, Saml. Slaton
and wife Viola Slaton, and Susie Slaton for and in consideration of the


sum of Twenty five dollars to us in hand paid receipt of which is
hereby acknowledged have this day bargained, sold and do hereby
transfer and convey unto Jennie Oakley a certain tract or parcel
of land lying and being in the 9th Civil District of Jefferson County,
Tennessee adjoining the lands of JJ Green, James Witt and others
and bounded as follows. Beginning on a rock corner to J.J.
Green thence S 81 W 21 poles to a rock thence S 32 E 7 poles to
a black gum corner to James Witt thence with the Mossy Creek
and Dandridge road to the beginning. To have and to hold to the
said Jennie Oakley forever and we the said Emaline Slaton, Samuel Slaton and wife Viola Slaton and Susan Slaton covenant and
bind ourselves and our heirs and assigns to forever warrant and
defend the title to the same to the said Jennie Oakley against
the lawful claims of andy and all persons whomsoever we further covenant
that we are lawfully seized and possessed of said lands
and have a lawful right to transfer the same. Given under
Our hands and seal ths April 30th 1895.

apart from her said husband acknowledged tghat she executed
the annexed instrument freely, voluntarily and under-
standingly without compulsion or constraint on the part
of her said husband and for the purposes therein contained.
