Peters, John W. age 83 of Wartburg, died Sept. 17, 1992. Preceded in death by sister, Ruth Peters Smith. Survivors: wife Katie Heidel Peters; sons and wife, Jon Robbin and Carolyn Peters of Kingsport, Duane Alan and Millie Peters of Maryville; grandchildren, Katherine and David Peters, John and Steven Peters and Greg Peters. John W. Peters, Morgan County businessman, dies.
Wartburg, Tennessee -- a prominent Morgan County business and community leader, John W. Peters, 83, of Wartburg died Thursday.
Mr. Peters taught school at Coalfield from 1931 to 1933 and coached the first football team in Morgan County.
He attended the University of Tennessee and Wesleyan College. He formerly was an assistant in charge of security for all TVA operations. He also worked as a sales representative for machinery distributers including Nixon Machinery Co.
Mr. Peters was the former owner of Peters Farm and Service Corp., also was the former co-owner of the Morgan County News.
He was active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a past president of the Wartburg Kiwansis Club and the Morgan County Fair Association.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wartburg with the Reverend Robert Pfaff officiating. The body will be taken to the church and hour before the service.
Burial will be in Wartburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg.
