John England and Jane Peters were my third great grandparents. Their daughter Vesta Clay England was my second great grandmother. Vesta was married in 1865, and therefore was not enumerated with the family in 1870. John England was the son of Titus England and Elizabeth. Jane Peters was the daughter of Thomas Peters and Sarah (Sallie) England. Titus England and Sarah (Sallie) England were brother and sister, being children of John England and Vesta Zipporah (Zipporah) Choate. So John England (the grandson, not the grandfather) and Jane Peters were first cousins who married. The spelling of the surname is transcribed correctly. The misspelling was on the part of the original census enumerator. John England was born and raised in the Scarbrough community of Anderson County. Depositions from John England's Civil War pension application say that he returned to his home in Scarbrough after the war, and that he remained in Scarbrough for four or five years before moving to the mountains. Grant England was John Grant England who was the son of John England and Jane Peters, and Elizabeth was Grant's wife Elizabeth Myatt. |

Rhoda Jane (Rody) England was the daughter of my third great grandparents John England and Jane (Jenny) Peters. As such, Rody was the sister of my second great grandmother Vesta Clay England. |
