Marjorie, third daughter of Lloyd and Mildred Cox miller, married Bobbie
Sams from White Pine, Tenn. Marjorie works as a telephone operator in Morris-
town, Tenn. Bobbie is employed in the post office at Dandridge. Marjorie and
Bobbie have no children.
Lloyd and Mildred Cox Miller's other two children, Janice and Vivian are
not married at this time.
Hazel, second daughter of John and Mary Slaton Cox, is truthfully one of the
finest girls of East Tennessee. She never married. A fine business woman and
truly you could call her the Miss Milkmaid of Tennessee, if not'the entire
United States. They, have a large dairy farm and many dairy cows and for a good
number of years since her father’s health has been bad, Hazel has managed to a
large extent the dairy farm. She is much like my oldest brother John. They both
were very, thrifty and John Cox and I might call her a little stingy. She is a fine
Christian woman and she and her father, and mother (John and Mary Cox) help
keep up some missions in Africa as well as being strong supporters of their own
church there near their home. I can only say this about Hazel, she is one of the best.
Dorothy, third daughter of John and Mary Slaton Cox, is quite a gal. She is
quite a talker, when she and I get together we really have a talk-fest. Dorothy's
first marriage was to Conley Caton. They had two children, Barbara and Mary Lou.
Barbara married Bill Clark of Chicago, Illinois, who is a career man in the United
States Navy. They have one child, but at this time I do not know what its name is.
A few years after Dorothy divorced her first husband she married Lynn Blackburn
from Knoxville, Tenn. He is a fine man. To this union two children were born,
namely Lynn Jr. and John. They now reside in Jefferson County near
Dandridge, Tenn.
Ethel, fourth living daughter of John and Mary Slaton Cox, is one of the most
beautiful and fine girls that has ever been my privilege to know. She is a typical
Nichols in stature. She is a graduate of Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City,
Tenn. She taught school two or three years in Washington, D. C. She married
Dr. James De Lozier, a fine physician from- Sevier County, Tennessee. To this
union four children were born, namely, Marie, Andrea, Cynthia and James, Jr.
They now reside in California.
Vern, the only living son of John and Mary Slaton Cox, was a twin to Fern.
He has always been more or less a businesslike man instead of a farmer. He never
cared too much for the farm and was in the trucking business. Also, for quite a
few years he would go into Indiana and Illinois and buy up used farm machinery
and bring it into Tennessee and sell it. He married Effie Walker who at the
time of their marriage her father was the Sheriff of Jefferson. County. They have
two children, namely, Mary Louise, and David.
Fern, twin of Vern, daughter of John and Mary Slaton Cox, is a very fine
girl and in disposition much like her mother. She married Victor Sherrod who is
one of the nicest young men that I know in that area. They have four children
namely, Dale, the twins Jane and Jean, and Paul. Victor works at the Atomic Bomb
Plant in Oakridge, Tenn., and they live in that area near Knoxville, Tennessee.
Before leaving the family of John and Mary Slaton Cox, their third child whose
name was Ann, died when she was four or five years old. I remember her so
vividly, her beautiful face and the most beautiful eyes on any child that I have
ever seen and as I remember her, she had such a fine and sweet disposition. As
long as I live, it will always be a fond memory to remember little Ann.

Catherine Jo Witmer (nee Woodhead) passed away on October 21 in Nashville. She was "Cathy" to most, "Mom" to a lucky few, but "Grammy" was her favorite name. Cathy was born on September 15, 1951 in Lansing, MI to Royal Spencer Woodhead Jr. of Brant Lake, NY and Margaret Kathryn Woodhead (nee Erb) of Saltsburg, PA. Cathy moved to Sevierville, TN with her family when she was 18 and became a Southerner. She married Robert "Jerry" Bryan in 1976, and in 1985 they moved to Bergen, Norway for two years, where she learned Norwegian and carted their three children on adventures around Europe. She lived almost a decade in Morgantown, WV before moving back home to East Tennessee. Cathy earned a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies in 1999 and a Master of Social Work in 2002 (the same year her youngest graduated high school), both from UT Knoxville. She had a passion for working with children and teens and spent many years at Youth Villages helping children and families in crisis. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in July 2011. She remarried in January 2005 to her best friend Dale, and they found great joy in their dog children Max, Ender, Ziggy, and Macon. Cathy met the world with empathy, laughter, and occasionally outrage. She always had a hand to rub a dog's belly, arms to hold a grandbaby, a good book or TV recommendation, and solid design advice. She believed there should be more whipped cream than pie, that the furniture should be rearranged at least twice a year, and that coffee should be drunk to the last drop. She cried when we cried and laughed when we laughed. She fought until the end but left this world on her terms: surrounded by her loving family. Cathy is survived by her loving husband of fifteen years, Dale T. Witmer; her children Ann (Sam) Carter, Peter (Natasha Scheuerman) Bryan, and Jesse (Nicholas) Morris; treasured grandchildren Charles, Joseph, Caroline, Benjamin, Henry, Liria, and Finley; brother Robert Leroy Woodhead, his wife Wanda, and niece Meredith Woodhead; mother-in-law Beth Witmer; sister-in-law Eileen (Ben) Rapier and their daughters Natalie and Olivia. A memorial service will be held at Click Funeral Home in Farragut on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00, and friends will be received at Dale and Cathy's home from 3:00-5:00. Memorial donations in memory of Cathy may be made to the Vanderbilt Lung Transplant Patient Assistance Fund. When James Hand Monger died, his wife Bertie Hinds went to High Point to find work. Some of Bertie's sisters's family lived there. She took Florine and Hazel there right after they graduated from high school. Bill went to High Point to find Florine and get married. They drove to Danville, Virginia to get married. It is not known why Danville, but it was just straight up the road about maybe 50 miles or less. Then they went back to High Point and then back to Knoxville. When Don was close to being born, Florine went back to High Point so her mom could help.
