20. I hereby certify that I attended the deceased from July 13, 1941 to April 21, 1942 and that I last saw him alive on April 21, 1942 and that death occurred on the date stated at 9:20 A.M. Signature: O.E. Ballou, M.D. Address: Clinton, Tenn. Date signed 2/3/43.

He was buried on 23 April 1942 in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Anderson County, Tennessee.69,201 Tombstone: Alva E. Peters, Oct 14, 1870 - Apr 21, 1942.

He was called Grandpa Peters by his grandchildren. He smoked a pipe, and never said anything. According to Lucille Wright, Grandma and Grandpa were often visited by Mark and Calvin Scarbrough. Mark and Calvin were Alva's first cousins. Alva was the son of Asberine Cross. Mark and Calvin were the sons of Sarah Cross. Sarah was Asberine's sister who married William V. Scarbrough.

It is likely that Alva Edward Peters was named for Alva A. Oliver. Susan Emily (Emily) Peters was the grandaunt of Alva Edward Peters. She was the sister of Alva's grandfather John W. Peters, and she married Alva A. Oliver. So Alva A. Oliver was the "granduncle by marriage" of Alva Edward Peters. Alva A. Oliver in turn was almost certainly named for his granduncle Alva Oliver. Also, Alva Oliver had a grandson named Alva Scarbrough, and Alva Edward Peters and Alva Scarbrough were second cousins.

Alva Edward "Alvy" Peters and Sallie Jane Cole were married on 28 November 1893 in Anderson County, Tennessee.199,200 Courthouse marriage book information: License #571, issued 1893 Nov 27, Alvy Peters to Sallie Cole, bondsmen Alvy Peters (signed as A. E. Peters) and J. H. Scarbrough; I solemnized the Rites of Matrimony between the within named parties on the 28 day of Nov. 1893, Geo. W. Keith, J.P. The marriage bond spelled his name correctly as Alvy, but his name was spelled incorrectly as Avy in the marriage book. The bondsman John H. (Johnnie) Scarbrough was Alva's first cousin.

Sallie Jane Cole199,200,205,206,207,208,209 was born on 29 June 1870 in Beaver Ridge, Knox County, Tennessee.199,205,206,207 It is a guess that she was born in the Beaver Ridge community of Knox County, but her parents were enumerated in the census in Beaver Ridge only nine days before she was born.

She appeared in the census in 1880 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Cole Sarah 10 f s w servant TN TN TN, enumerated with the Preston Shannon family. This is the only existing record where her name was listed as Sarah rather than as Sallie. It is likely that her name was really Sallie, and that the census enumerator made a mistake in assuming that Sallie was just a nickname for Sarah. Preston Shannon's wife was Susan Emily (Emily) Peters and Sallie's grandmother was Jane (Jennie) Peters. Emily and Jennie were sisters, so Sallie was living with her grandmother's sister. Sallie's mother and her sisters Cordie and Mollie were living in Knox County. Sallie's sister Ida was living in Anderson County with the John W. Scarbrough family. John Scarbrough's wife was Mary Peters, another sister of Sallie's grandmother.

She appeared in the census in 1900 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Sallie J. 29 wife f m6 w Jun 1870 TN TN TN 2 children, 2 living.

Sallie appeared in the census in 1910 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Sallie 39 wife f m1-16 w TN TN TN 7 children, 6 living.

She appeared in the census in 1920 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Sallie J. 49 wife f m w TN TN TN.

She appeared in the census in 1930 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Sallie 59 wife f m@23 w TN TN TN.

Sallie died on 22 July 1942 in Edgemoor, Anderson County, Tennessee.199,205,206,207 She died in the home of her son Ernest Lester (Lester) Peters Sr.

She was short, wore her hair in a bun, and always wore an apron.

It is likely that Sallie Jane Cole was named for her great grandmother Sarah (Sallie) England and her grandmother Jane Peters.
