Notice of death, Clinton Gazette, 13 Mar 1890, p.5 (not a true obituary in the modern sense).
Robertsville. Death has torn from our midst two friends. The soul of Thomas Reed left its mortal home on Friday last. On Sunday morning, Mr. John Peters, was claimed by the ruthless enemy. The heart-felt sympathy of the community is extended to their bereaved families. While you weep, dear ones, let your soul rejoice over the hope of an eternal meeting in heaven. (John H. Peters died on 8 Mar 1890, which was actually a Saturday rather than Sunday as indicated in the newspaper.)

There is no entry for John in the Anderson County Administrators & Guardian Bonds book, May 1887 - May 1902. So it appears that his estate never went through probate. The likely reason is that he never owned any land.
Burial: 10 March 1890, Scarbrough Cemetery Anderson County, Tennessee.163,165,168 Grave marker: J. H. Peters, Co. K 5th. Tenn. Inf., no dates. The date of his burial was listed in the Civil War pension application of his widow Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross.

Index of Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans: Peters, John H., Pvt., Co. K, 5th Regt., Tenn. Infy., Cemetery - New Bethel Church, Burnes Mills, Roane Co., Tenn. Date of death - March 8, 1890. Headstone supplied by W. H. Cross, Lee, Mass., Contract Feb'y 24, 1896. However, the stone is actually located at the Scarbrough Cemetery. The following is from the Civil War Pension application of John H. Peters and later of his widow Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Peters. John's application was first filed on 17 Mar 1888. He died on 8 Mar 1890, and Asberine's application as a widow was first filed on 14 Apr 1890.

Asberine's application documents her minor children who were still living. The primary source we have for her children is a Peters family history that was taken from the Peters family bible. The children as listed in Asberine's pension application are consistent with the children listed in the family history.

Grubb, residing at Scarboro Tenn persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Hulda A. Peters, the claimant, sign her name to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her for 8 years and 25 years respectively, that Hulda A. Peters is the identical person She represents herself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Sworn to and subscribed to me this 30 day of January, A.D. 1904.

Birth: 4 March 1890, Oliver Springs, [Anderson County], Tennessee.157,173,174,175,176 Hutzel was listed in the family Bible as H. Hutzel Peters. There are records which list his name as Hutzel Henry Peters, and also other records which list his name as Henry Hutzel Peters. Henry Hutzel Peters is probably correct. He was known as Hutzel, and he is remembered as Uncle Hutzel by family members who remember him.

Hutzel's WWI draft registration card states that he was born in Oliver Springs. It is not known if it was Anderson County, Roane County, or Morgan County because parts of the city are in each of the three counties. But he was probably born in Anderson County. His father John Henry Peters died four days later in Robertsville, Anderson County, Tennessee. Oliver Springs and Robertsville are very close to each other.

J.H. Wallace County Judge He is reported to have looked exactly like his nephew Lester. Hutzel was much younger than his brother Alva (Lester's father), and Hutzel was only five years older than Lester. Hutzel never married and never moved out on his own. He was living with Alva's family when he died.

He owned a fiddle which was inherited by his nephew Lester. Lester played the fiddle at dances. The fiddle owned by Hutzel and Lester is presently in possession of Priscilla Bryan.

Hutzel served in WWI.
