AGED CLINTON EDITOR DIES, Samuel Tobias Peters of Anderson County News Was Former Official (Special to the News Sentinel).

CLINTON, Nov. 23 - Samuel Tobias Peters, 78-year-old owner of the Anderson County News and former county official, died tonight at his home here. He had been ill four weeks.

Mr. Peters was a former register, former county surveyor and former Chancery Court clerk and master.

He was born in Loudon County and came to Clinton more than 50 years ago. He was a graduate of Old Roane College at Wheat and in recent years was president of the Alumni Association. As a civil engineer he had laid out some of the present roads in Anderson County. A charter member of Clinton's First Baptist Church, Mr. Peters helped build the church torn away last year to make way for the new one now under construction.

His wife was the late Catherine Rogers Peters. Surviving are 10 children, five sons Ben P., Tom C., and Sam L., of Clinton, Walter M. of Knoxville, and Tim C. Peters of LaFollette; five daughters, Mrs. John Wilkerson and Miss Katherine Peters of Clinton, Mrs. N. W. Heinrichs of LaFollette, Mrs. Malcolm F. Gillis of Knoxville, and Mrs. George Nelson of Fonda, N. Y.; four brothers, L. M., E. W., and A. D. Peters of Harriman, and the Rev. B. L. Peters of Crewe, Va.; 12 grandchildren and one grandson.

Although funeral plans are not definite, it is thought the services will be held Friday afternoon.

Samuel was buried about 25 November 1938 in Sunset Cemetery, Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee.123

Sam Peters was County Court Clerk of Anderson County in the 1920's.
