Cross and Mary (Polly) Himes, and the great granddaughter of my great grandparents William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy and William's wife Mary.  I would suspect that Flora's middle initial in this census entry was "C" because she was thinking of herself as Flora Cross Gardner.

Flora married Allen T. Gardner on 26 Jun 1895 in Roane County.  Allen was the son of Alexander L. (Alex) Gardner and Darthula Alley.

I'm not sure exactly what an "ore miner" was, but other men living nearby were listed as "miner, coal".  So an "ore miner" evidently is not quite the same thing as a "coal miner".

Mary Jane Cross age 46 was the daughter of John T. Cross and Genetta Underwood.  John was the son of Elijah Cross and Mary (Polly) Winters, and the grandson of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  Genetta Underwood was the daughter of William Underwood and Lucretia.  It seems extremely likely that this William Underwood was a part of my Underwood family from Rowan County, North Carolina and Sevier County, Tennessee, but I have not been able to make the connection.

In 1910, Mary was the widow of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goss who died in 1909.  Dr. Goss was born in Ohio, so the two sons William and Ben should have had their birth places listed as TN OH TN.

Cora Alice (Cory) Cross age 32 was the daughter of Mary Jane Cross.  Cory was raised by her mother and by her stepfather Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goss.  Cory's name is often written as Cora Alice Goss, and there is some speculation and evidence that Dr. Goss was Cory's biological father.

Dr. Goss was born in Ohio.  If Cory was his biological daughter, then her birth places should have been listed as TN OH TN rather than as TN TN TN.  However, Dr. Goss's sons were living nearby (dwelling number 143 above), and their birth places were also listed as TN TN TN even though Dr. Goss of Ohio is known to have been their biological father.

Mary Jane Cross was the daughter of John T. Cross and Genetta Underwood.  John T. Cross was the son of Elijah Cross and Mary (Polly) Winters, and the grandson of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  Genetta Underwood was the daughter of William Underwood and Lucretia.  It seems extremely likely that this William Underwood was a part of my Underwood family from Rowan County, North Carolina and Sevier County, Tennessee, but I have not been able to make the connection.
