Marriage narrative: The bondsman Claude Eugene Rimmer was Elmer's brother-in-law, being the husband of Elmer's sister Lelia Pearl Cox. Ethel was actually 6 months short of her 18th birthday when she was married. Ethel and Elmer married secretly. Their plan was to continue to live with their respective parents, and to get together secretly whenever they could. However, both families quickly figured it out. The families gave the newlyweds the equivalent of a wedding shower, gifting them with a few dishes, pots and pans, a table and chairs, and a few chickens. At that point, they road off together in Elmer's horse and wagon and set up a household together.1,10

    Black, John Wesley - age 63 of Sevierville, died Thursday July 20, 2006 at his home. John was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church Greenvale, Tn. and a 3rd Degree Mason in the Comer Lodge # 417. John was a graduate of Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. John was a lifelong animal Virologist having a profound influence in the field of veterinary medicine, having developed one of the most effective Parvo vaccines available. John was the founder of American BioResearch Laboratory in business for 21 years. He was co-founder and active member for over 30 years with the Association of Veterinarian Microbiologist. John was an avid reader of science fiction, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, amateur Hamm Radio operator as well as an avid photographer. John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles W. and Mrs. Kathleen Black and grandparents Robert E. and Ethel Bryan Cox. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years Patricia; son and daughter in law Eric and Michelle Black; daughter and son in law Rachel Black and Steve Graziano. Grandsons Ian and Wolfgang Black. Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Ridenour officiating. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Region Office, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN. 37909. Hundreds of student nurses, physician interns, and other medical students and medical professionals were in residence at Knoxville General Hospital, and Kathleen was enumerated along with all the other boarders at the hospital. There is an error in her census entry in that in 1935 she was living with her parents in the Carter community at the far east end of Knox County rather than living in Carter County.4

Black, John Wesley - age 63 of Sevierville, died Thursday July 20, 2006 at his home. John was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church Greenvale, Tn. and a 3rd Degree Mason in the Comer Lodge # 417. John was a graduate of Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. John was a lifelong animal Virologist having a profound influence in the field of veterinary medicine, having developed one of the most effective Parvo vaccines available. John was the founder of American BioResearch Laboratory in business for 21 years. He was co-founder and active member for over 30 years with the Association of Veterinarian Microbiologist. John was an avid reader of science fiction, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, amateur Hamm Radio operator as well as an avid photographer. John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles W. and Mrs. Kathleen Black and grandparents Robert E. and Ethel Bryan Cox. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years Patricia; son and daughter in law Eric and Michelle Black; daughter and son in law Rachel Black and Steve Graziano. Grandsons Ian and Wolfgang Black. Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Ridenour officiating. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Region Office, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN. 37909.     Black, John Wesley - age 63 of Sevierville, died Thursday July 20, 2006 at his home. John was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church Greenvale, Tn. and a 3rd Degree Mason in the Comer Lodge # 417. John was a graduate of Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. John was a lifelong animal Virologist having a profound influence in the field of veterinary medicine, having developed one of the most effective Parvo vaccines available. John was the founder of American BioResearch Laboratory in business for 21 years. He was co-founder and active member for over 30 years with the Association of Veterinarian Microbiologist. John was an avid reader of science fiction, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, amateur Hamm Radio operator as well as an avid photographer. John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles W. and Mrs. Kathleen Black and grandparents Robert E. and Ethel Bryan Cox. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years Patricia; son and daughter in law Eric and Michelle Black; daughter and son in law Rachel Black and Steve Graziano. Grandsons Ian and Wolfgang Black. Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Ridenour officiating. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Region Office, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN. 37909. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday with Masonic services following at 4:00 p.m. provided by Cherokee Lodge # 728 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
