-
Alva Edward Peters was my great grandfather in
Anderson County, Tennessee, having been my mother's
paternal grandfather.
-
The exact location of Alva's farm
is well known because it was one of thousands of farms taken
by the government in 1942 to build the secret city of Oak Ridge.
The Army Corps of Engineers produced detailed maps of all the parcels
of land that were taken. The city of Oak Ridge was built as a part
of the war-time project to develop the atomic bomb.

This research log attempts to perform
the equivalent of a title search to identify the
original owner or owners of the property at the
beginning of Anderson County in the early 1800's.

A map of
Alva's
land on a
1942 Army Corps of Engineers map. The 1942 maps
are not easy to interpret, but with a little effort they
provide a gold mine of information about the location
of the farms in Anderson County in 1942.

A map of map of
Alva's
land based the metes and bounds description from
the 1895 deed when the land was purchased
by Alva's mother. His mother was
Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross. At the time
of the purchase, Asberine was the widow
of Alva's
father, John H. Peters.
