Sarah May was the daughter of George May and Barbara Van Grundy.  In 1860, she was the widow of Michael May Sr.  I do not know if Sarah and Michael were related.

Michael May Sr. was the son of my fifth great grandparents Thomas May Sr. and Maria Catherine Emerich.  As such, Michael was the brother of my fourth great grandmother Margarethe Elizabeth (Peggy) May.

Eli C. May was Sarah's stepson, being the son of Michael May Sr. and Michael's first wife Catharine Detemer.  It's difficult to be certain which children of Michael May Sr. went with which wife, but I believe that all the other children listed in this census entry were Sarah's children.

The John Webster family was living next door in dwelling number 2050, and Eli C. May married John's daughter Melissa J. Webster in 1861.

Peters and was living in dwelling number 2168 next door.  Leander died in the Civil War, so this is the last census in which he appeared.

Nancy Derick Carpenter age 16 was the daughter of Consider (Sid) Carpenter and Susannah Guthrie.  Leander and Nancy were married on 27 Aug 1857 in Morgan County, Tennessee.

Joseph Wyatt Jr. was the son of Joseph Wyatt Sr. and Nancy Morris.  Joseph Jr's wife was Jane M. Evans.

I have recorded this census entry because there was a deposition by Joseph Wyatt in the Civil War pension file of my third great grandfather John England, and Joseph Wyatt was mentioned in a deposition by Charles M. Smith in the same Civil War pension file.

I'm a little curious that Joseph Wyatt was enumerated in Roane County.  John England was from Anderson County, and the Charles M. Smith deposition said that John England and Joseph Wyatt were from the same county.

An additional reason to record Wyatt family census entries is that my fifth great grandparents in Anderson County, Tennessee were Henry Peters Sr. and Mary WiatteMary Wiatte is a brick wall, and I'm hoping to find other Wyatt families in the vicinity of Anderson County that might connect with her.

           Joanna 6/12 f w TN

Elizabeth Cate was the daughter of Daniel Hull Cate and Rachel Smith.  So Rachael Clevenger age 5 was probably named for her maternal grandmother Rachael Smith.  Daniel Hull Cate's line goes back to Aaron Cate and Margaret Hull, John Cate and Elizabeth (Betsy) Manard, Charles Cate Sr. and Sarah Baldwin, and my sixth great grandparents Capt. Robert Cate and Elizabeth Wyatt.  So I am only very distantly related to this Cate line.

However, I was really looking at this family because of Rachael Clevenger.  She later married Peter Stalcup and was the mother-in-law of Anna E. (Annie) Bray who married William R. (Will) Stalcup.  Annie was the daughter of my second great grandparents Joseph A. (Joe) Bray and Ferriba Salina (Salina) Moore.  As such, Annie was the sister of my great grandmother Mary Mahala Jane (Mahala or Haley) Bray.
