She was a member at the Centerburg United Methodist Church, Dogwood Blossoms Chapter of Sweet Adelines, Tri County Craft Club and the Friendship Circle of the church. She is survived by children, Ray (Dorothy) Wright and Brenda (Bill) Eagon, both of Centerburg, and Ed (Sandy) Wright of Howard; three sisters, Ruth (Bob) Bryan, Irene (Paul) Tarver and Loretta (Bob) Tadlock, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Henthorn, Ryan and Randy Wright, Jeri Hoover, Kent Fling, Brock Eagon, Craig Wright, Melanie McSeveney, Leslie, Jacinda and Ryan Rager; 17 great-grandchildren, Allison and Trey Henthorn, Ryan, Isaiah and Logan Wright, Alaina and Gavin Wright, Emilee Wright, Brooke and Paige McSeveney, Cody and Dalton Rager, Kaitlin Goodman, Austin and Ramey Hoover, Amanda and Ken Hornung; numerous nieces and nephews. Ray Wright, age 77 of Centerburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Ann’s Hospital with his loved ones by his side. He was born on August 12, 1939 in Anderson County, Tennessee to the late Audie and Lucille (Peters) Wright. A graduate of Centerburg High School in 1957, he went on to serve in the US Navy. While his ship was at the Saint John New Brunswick Port in Canada, he met his bride to be, Dorothy Kernighan. Married, they shared 53 wonderful years together, raising a family, and sharing life’s journey. Following retirement as a quality assurance inspector with Western Electric/ATT/Bell Communication Research, Ray operated Wright-Way Locksmith and Wright-Way Water Systems. He also was a driver for Ross Jeep Eagle and repaired voting machines for the Knox County Board of Elections. He was a member of the Sunbury Eagles and V.F.W., Centerburg AMVETS, and the Mt. Vernon Moose and Elks Lodges. He was also an active volunteer and supporter of the Centerburg High School Athletic and Music Boosters, as well as the Centerburg Baseball Little League. Self-trained in virtually every trade, he enjoyed golf, gardening, and was a stubborn fan of the Cleveland sports teams. Never with idle hands, if there was a need Ray was the first to lend a hand. Possessing a friendly and gregarious nature, he was the consummate supporter. Fun loving, he was always persistent and at times stubborn. He was the proudest being a supportive husband, father, and grandfather, for which he will forever be remembered. Ray is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy; children: Debbie Henthorn (Harry Westergaard) of Centerburg, Randy (Nicki) Wright of Galena, Ryan (Tracy) Wright of Centerburg; 7 grandchildren: Allison (Scott) Miller, Trey Henthorn, Ryan, Isaiah, and Logan Wright, Alaina and Gavin Wright; great-grandchildren: Madison, Tyler, and Lily Miller, and Elliott Hamannthorn; brother Eddie (Jo) Wright; sister Brenda Eagon; mother-in-law Fern Kernighan, several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. He was also preceded in death by infant granddaughter Anna Kristine Wright. His family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 5th during his Celebration of Life at the DeVore- Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. Rt. 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. | Obituary | ![]() Oliver Edward Wright, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 28, 2025 at home with his family at bedside. He was born on April 9, 1942 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to the late Audie P. and Eva Lucille (Peters) Wright. Ed honorably served his country in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Ed worked as a Seed Consultant and a truck driver to name a few of his careers. He was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge, #2555 in Mount Vernon and the Fraternal Order of Elks, #140 in Mount Vernon. Ed was an avid sports fan, an avid reader of Louis L’Amour’s westerns, he loved to travel, he loved nature, he enjoyed playing golf, but most of all he loved watching his grandkids in their activities. Ed is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Joan Rhoads; children, Craig (Nichole) Wright of Centerton, Arkansas, Jason (Lori) Hendrickson of Pensacola, Florida, Brandi (Dustin) Whitesel of Centerburg, Ohio and Melanie (Sean) McSeveney of London, Ohio; grandchildren, Cody, Emilee, Megan, Austin, Levi, Brooke, Paige, Chloe and Owen; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Brenda (Glenn) Steele of Centerburg, Ohio. He was a retired employee of Pittsburgh Plate of Mount Vernon and was previously employed by the Columbus Dispatch. He was an avid Ohio State, Cleveland Indian and Centerburg Trojan fan. He is survived by his daughter, Jerilyn (Fling) Moreland (Jeff Kestner) of Hilliard and son, Kent Fling (Cyndy) of Columbus; grandchildren, Kaitlin (Brian), Austin and Ramey of Centerburg and Graham, Grace and Olivia of Columbus. | Obituary | ![]() William “Bill” Austin Eagon age 70 of Centerburg died peacefully at home following a short illness on June 28th, 2012. He was born September 4th, 1941 in Barnesville, OH to the late William H. and Georgia Hannahs Eagon. He was the only child of three sets of parents, Austin E. and Margaret P. Hannahs and William “Bill” and Opal Pearl Dewar who are deceased. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1959. He lettered in basketball at Baldwin-Wallace College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He received a Master of Education from Xavier University. He started his teaching and coaching career at Skyview High school. From there he went to Mount Vernon Middle School and on to Centerburg High school. He later worked for Licking County Schools as a Supervisor Consultant where he ended his career in education. He also worked for many years for Hague Quality Water. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 40 years Brenda Wright Eagon, his children, daughter Jerilyn (Kurt) Moreland of Centerburg, R. Kent Fling of Gahanna, and Brock (Laurie Chain) Eagon of Centerburg. His much beloved grandchildren, Kaitlin Goodman, Ramey Hoover, Felicia Moreland, Wyatt Eagon, Kennley Eagon all of Centerburg, Austin Hoover of Fort Leonard Wood, MO, brothers-in law Ray (Dorothy) Wright and Ed (Joan) Wright of Centerburg, many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Bill was blessed with, and much appreciated by many friends. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Elks Lodge #140, and Mt. Zion Lodge No. 0009 all of Mt. Vernon. He was a loyal member of the Democratic Party, Knox County Party Chairman, ran for the 76th District House of Representatives in 1978, and served as a Village Councilman for Centerburg. Visitation will be Saturday July 7th, 2012 from 4-6 P.M. with a celebration of his life at 6 P.M at the Centerburg United Methodist Church.
