Narrative | The following is from The Nichols Book by Wyatt Nichols, page 69. Alma, second child of Porter and Minnie Cox Slaton, married Orville Ailey from over around the Muddy Creek Valley. He is a great guy and I like him. It was amusing when I told about the incident at one of our reunions what happened to my brother Ralph. He was teaching school in this area, and a group of folks were going to scalp him because he had whipped one of their daughters. I have told of this incident in comments on my brother and will just say here that Orville Ailey is a close relative of those that were about to scalp my brother. I laughingly say I want no part of him because he belongs to the scalping group and he gets a big kick out of it.5 |
