    Ernest Lester Peters, 76, a foreman at Knoxville Stove Works for 26 years until his retirement in 1943, died yesterday afternoon at his home on Tazewell Pike, Corryton. Mr. Peters was also employed by the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge from 1943 until 1953. He was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, where he taught the Friendship Sunday School Class for 26 years and served as chairman for the building program. He was a Mason. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Rose Murphy Peters; daughters, Mrs. Lucille Wright of Centerburg, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Bryan, Mrs. Virginia Irene Tarver and Mrs. Loretta Tadlock, all of Knoxville; sons, Ernest L. Peters Jr. and Howard R. Peters of Corryton; stepchildren; James P. Murphy of Sweetwater, Larry W. Murphy of Morristown, Guerry Carl Murphy of Johnson City and Mary Aileen Peters of Corryton; sisters, Mrs. Clyde Cole of Knoxville and Mrs. Eliza Letsinger of Powell; brothers, W. B., S. A. and R. E. Stanley had severe breathing problems when he was born. He was being transported from Greeneville to the neo-natal unit at the UT Hospital in Knoxville when he died.2

Helen W. “Purple” Peters, age 87 of Corryton, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Mercy St. Mary’s. Born in Corryton, she was the daughter of the late Trece and Reva Grubb Warwick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband of 34 years, Ernest Peters, Jr, and infant daughter, Antoinette Peters. Mrs. Peters was a lifelong member of Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had served in numerous capacities since she was 12 years old. She taught Sunday School Classes and Bible School, as was a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. She loved music, and occasionally played the piano for church services. She loved people, especially children, and enjoyed taking gifts and candy to church for them each Sunday. Sending special notes and birthday cards was one of her greatest delights. She especially loved her family, her church, and her many friends. Mrs. Peters attended the University of Tennessee and was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. She taught school for 36 years at Corryton, Smithwood, and Inskip Elementary Schools. Survivors include a son, Kent Peters and his wife Carolyn of Corryton; granddaughter, Angela Clapp and her husband Barry of Nashville; and grandson, the Rev. Nick Peters and his wife Allie of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Doyal, the Rev. David Peters, and the Rev. Nick Peters officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00am interment.     Helen W. “Purple” Peters, age 87 of Corryton, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Mercy St. Mary’s. Born in Corryton, she was the daughter of the late Trece and Reva Grubb Warwick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband of 34 years, Ernest Peters, Jr, and infant daughter, Antoinette Peters. Mrs. Peters was a lifelong member of Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had served in numerous capacities since she was 12 years old. She taught Sunday School Classes and Bible School, as was a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. She loved music, and occasionally played the piano for church services. She loved people, especially children, and enjoyed taking gifts and candy to church for them each Sunday. Sending special notes and birthday cards was one of her greatest delights. She especially loved her family, her church, and her many friends. Mrs. Peters attended the University of Tennessee and was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. She taught school for 36 years at Corryton, Smithwood, and Inskip Elementary Schools. Survivors include a son, Kent Peters and his wife Carolyn of Corryton; granddaughter, Angela Clapp and her husband Barry of Nashville; and grandson, the Rev. Nick Peters and his wife Allie of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Doyal, the Rev. David Peters, and the Rev. Nick Peters officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00am interment. Harless, Mary Aileen Murphy Peters - age 70, of Knoxville, died 8:47 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Former member of Corinth United Methodist Church and presently a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Rose Murphy Peters; daughters, Mrs. Lucille Wright of Centerburg, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Bryan, Mrs. Virginia Irene Tarver and Mrs. Loretta Tadlock, all of Knoxville; sons, Ernest L. Peters Jr. and Howard R. Peters of Corryton; stepchildren; James P. Murphy of Sweetwater, Larry W. Paul Marshall Tarver, age 86, born on April 1, 1933, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019. Preceded in death by parents Fred Russell Tarver, Sr. and Anna Elizabeth Luttrell Tarver; Brothers Fred Russell Tarver, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Lowell Eugene Tarver of Knoxville; Sister Elizabeth Ann Tarver Sykes of Falls Church, VA. He was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church and the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class. He retired from TVA after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rich DDE 820. He graduated from Central High School, attended the University of Tennessee before entering the military service and graduated from the Fulton Vocational Training School. He loved history, especially of the Civil War, steam locomotives, airplanes and ships. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Irene Peters Tarver; son, Marshall Scott Tarver (Janet); and daughter, Teresa Diane Tarver Benson (Joe); four grandsons, Rev. Benjamin Tarver (Christy) of Thomson, GA, Rev. Adam Tarver (Holly) of Knoxville, Daniel and Sam Benson of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Maeleigh, Ellie, Caleb Tarver of Thomson, GA and Adley Tarver of Knoxville. Brother Edmund C.
